SYSTEM code execution via GDBackupSvc symbolic link
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper link resolution in GDBackupSvc in G DATA Total Security 25.5.14.95 and earlier allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. GDBackupSvc follows an attacker-created symbolic link and creates the linked file with a permissive DACL instead of securely resolving its destination. Low-privileged code execution on the Windows host is required, after which the attacker can execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
