Code execution via AR parser type confusion
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Type confusion in Ashlar-Vellum Cobalt 12 beta build 1204.61 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code via a crafted AR file. The AR file parser fails to validate user-supplied data before treating it as an incompatible type, causing execution in the current process. Exploitation requires the target to visit a malicious page or open the file, and the resulting code runs with the current user's privileges.
