Code execution via stale AR parser object
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Use-after-free in the AR parser in Ashlar-Vellum Cobalt 12 beta build 1204.62 allows attackers to execute code via a crafted AR file. The parser performs operations on an object without first confirming that the object still exists, permitting access after its lifetime ends. Exploitation requires the target to open a malicious file or visit a malicious page, and code runs in the current process.
