Local privilege escalation via cls_fw use-after-free
Published Sep 6, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Use-after-free in Linux Kernel 3.18 through 6.4 allows local users to gain elevated privileges through a crafted cls_fw filter update. fw_change() copies the entire tcf_result into a replacement filter, then unbinds the old filter and decrements the referenced class's filter_cnt, permitting that class to be freed while still referenced. Low-privileged local access is required, and successful exploitation grants elevated privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
