Account takeover via mismatched password-reset identities
Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Improper authentication in wp.insider Simple Membership 4.3.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over member accounts. process_password_reset_using_link validates a reset key against the GET login but resets the account named separately by the POST swpm_user_login value. A valid reset key and low-privileged account are required; successful exploitation replaces an arbitrary member's password and grants that account's access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <=4.3.4
