Local privilege escalation via UEFI race condition
Published Sep 16, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Race condition in Intel UEFI firmware allows local users with high privileges to escalate privileges on affected processors. Intel has not disclosed the affected firmware routine or the unsynchronized operation that loses the race. Exploitation requires local access, high privileges, and a timing-dependent condition; success grants authority beyond the firmware's security boundary.
