Unauthenticated code execution via L2TP use-after-free
Published Oct 10, 2023 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
A use-after-free in Microsoft Windows L2TP allows remote attackers to execute code by sending crafted messages to an RRAS server. Microsoft identifies the flaw in Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol processing but has not disclosed the affected function or precise lifetime error. Exploitation requires a network-reachable RRAS server and a complex sequence of crafted packets; no credentials or user interaction are required.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
