CVE-2023-41564Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Stored script execution via .shtml asset upload

Published Sep 8, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024

Stored XSS in Cockpit CMS 2.6.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in visitors' browsers via a crafted .shtml asset. The Upload Asset function accepts an .shtml file containing attacker-controlled HTML and publishes a link that causes a browser to interpret the embedded script. Exploitation requires an account permitted to upload assets and a visitor to open the published asset link; the result is script execution in that visitor's browser.
