Network disruption via malformed BGP path attributes
Published Aug 29, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
Improper BGP path-attribute handling in Nokia SR OS 22.10 and SR Linux allows remote attackers to repeatedly reset BGP sessions. A malformed optional transitive attribute can traverse routers that do not recognize it, then causes an affected receiver to close the BGP session instead of treating only the route as unreachable. The condition requires update-fault-tolerance to be disabled and can interrupt routed traffic until the poisoned update stops being reannounced.
