Remote memory corruption via oversized software version

Buffer overflow in bgpd in FRRouting FRR 9.0 allows remote attackers to corrupt process memory via a crafted BGP OPEN message. The bgp_capability_software_version function copies the received capability length into a fixed BGP_MAX_SOFT_VERSION buffer without first limiting the length to 64 bytes. An unauthenticated BGP peer with network access can reach the parser, and the resulting overwrite can crash bgpd; public sources do not demonstrate code execution.
