Root code execution via SetWan2Settings stack overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DIR-3040 firmware 1.20B03 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute root code. The SetWan2Settings HNAP handler in prog.cgi copies an insufficiently validated user-supplied string into a fixed-size stack buffer. Reachability requires authenticated access from the adjacent network; successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code as root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
