Root code execution via SetWanSettings stack overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in prog.cgi in D-Link DIR-3040 firmware 120B03 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. The SetWanSettings handler copies an unvalidated user-supplied string into a fixed-size stack buffer while processing HNAP requests. Access to the router management network and an administrator password are required, and exploitation can fully compromise the appliance.
