Root code execution via SetWan3Settings stack overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DIR-3040 firmware 1.20B03 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. prog.cgi handles SetWan3Settings HNAP requests by copying a user-supplied string into a fixed-size stack buffer without adequate length validation. Access requires authentication from an adjacent network, and successful exploitation grants root-level control of the router.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
