Adjacent-network code execution via HNAP1 stack overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DAP-1325 1.07b01 allows remote attackers on an adjacent network to execute arbitrary code. The setDhcpAssignRangeUpdate handler copies attacker-controlled lan_ipaddr XML data from the HNAP1 SOAP endpoint into a fixed-length stack buffer without validating its length. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation executes code with root privileges from the adjacent network.
