Adjacent-network root code execution via PrimaryDNS overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DAP-1325 firmware 1.07b01 allows physically proximate attackers to execute code as root. The HNAP1 SOAP endpoint copies the SetAPLanSettings PrimaryDNS XML value into a fixed-length stack buffer without validating its length. Exploitation requires access to the extender's adjacent network but requires no authentication, and successful code runs with root privileges.
