CVE-2023-41184

Root code execution via ActiveCells stack overflow

Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in TP-Link Tapo C210 before 1.3.6 Build 230426 Rel.48373n allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. The CreateRules and ModifyRules APIs copy an attacker-controlled ActiveCells value into a fixed-length stack buffer without validating its length. Network-adjacent access is required; although the API requires authentication, its authentication mechanism can be bypassed, yielding arbitrary code execution as root.
