Administrator profile modification via missing target check
Published Aug 11, 2023 · Updated Oct 11, 2024
Incorrect authorization in Mattermost allows remote authenticated User Managers to alter a system administrator's profile through the user API. The user-update path accepts permission to edit other users without rejecting an administrative target before writing supplied email, first-name, or last-name fields. Reachability requires an Enterprise User Manager account; the bounded effect is unauthorized modification of those administrator identity fields.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
