CVE-2023-41057Public exploit

Out-of-root file modification via unchecked glob path

Published Sep 4, 2023 · Updated Sep 27, 2024

Path traversal in Plannigan Hyper Bump It before 0.5.1 allows local users to modify files outside the project root via a crafted config. The file matcher in hyper_bump_it/_hyper_bump_it/files.py passes the configured file_glob directly to project_root.glob without verifying that each resolved match remains under the project root. Exploitation requires a user to run the tool on attacker-controlled project configuration; disabling the confirmation prompt permits edits without preapproval.
