CVE-2023-41048Network attack vector

Stored XSS via inline SVG scale responses

Published Sep 21, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Stored XSS in image-scale responses in Plone plone.namedfile allows remote authenticated users to execute script through crafted SVG scales. ImageScale.set_headers previously passed scale data to set_headers without a filename, allowing disallowed SVG MIME types to be served inline instead of as attachments. Exploitation requires permission to upload an SVG and a victim who follows a specially crafted scale link; the resulting script can read or alter browser-accessible data.
