CVE-2023-41042Network attack vector

Administrator-triggered DoS via unbounded theme imports

Published Sep 15, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Discourse stable before 3.1.1 and beta/tests-passed before 3.2.0.beta1 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service. The remote-theme import path loads every repository asset into memory without per-file size or total-file-count limits. Administrator access to the theme installer and control of a malicious Git repository are required; exhaustion interrupts forum availability.
