Process crash via stale BIFS command buffers
Published Sep 11, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Use-after-free in GPAC 2.2.1 and earlier allows local users to crash MP4Box by opening a crafted BIFS media file. The BIFS BM_ParseCommand error path left newly added command buffers registered instead of unregistering and freeing them, allowing later access to stale objects in gf_bifs_flush_command_list. Exploitation requires a user to process the file with MP4Box; the documented consequence is a process crash without reported data exposure or modification.
