Plugin extraction escape via unchecked ZIP paths
Published Aug 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
Path traversal in PF4J 3.9.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to write files outside the plugin extraction directory via a crafted ZIP. Unzip.extract joins each ZIP entry name to the destination without verifying its canonical path, so parent-directory entries escape that destination. Exposure requires a consuming application to pass an attacker-controlled plugin archive to loadPluginFromPath; the demonstrated consequence is arbitrary file placement.
