Arbitrary file write via unchecked ZIP entry paths
Published Aug 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
Path traversal in PF4J 3.9.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to write files outside the plugin directory through a crafted ZIP archive. Unzip.extract joined each untrusted ZIP entry name to the extraction destination without verifying that its canonical path remained inside that directory. Exploitation requires a host application to pass an attacker-controlled ZIP to loadPluginFromPath; resulting code execution depends on writing into a location the host later executes.
