Account enumeration via divergent password-recovery messages
Published Aug 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
User enumeration in PHPJabbers Document Creator 1.0 allows remote attackers to identify valid accounts through password recovery. The password-recovery workflow returns different messages for registered and unregistered users, exposing account validity to unauthenticated requests. The disclosed consequence is a validated username list that makes subsequent password brute-force attempts more efficient; account access still requires a valid password.
