Daemon crash via improperly validated printf expression
Published Aug 30, 2023 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Denial of service in Splunk Web allows local users to crash vulnerable Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform instances via a crafted search. The printf SPL function improperly validates expressions when commands such as fieldformat appear earlier in the search pipeline, causing the Splunk daemon to crash. A user must be able to submit SPL searches; the resulting daemon crash interrupts the affected instance without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=8.2 <8.2.12
