Code execution via unchecked SquashFS buffer write
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in 7-Zip 22.01 allows remote attackers to execute code when a crafted SquashFS file is opened or parsed. The SquashFS parser fails to validate user-controlled data before a buffer write, allowing data to pass the end of an allocated buffer. Exploitation requires user interaction, and successful code runs with the privileges of the current 7-Zip process.
