CVE-2023-40479

Root code execution via unvalidated UPnP input

Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

OS command injection in NETGEAR RAX30 firmware 1.0.6.74_1 allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code as root. The UPnP service passes an improperly validated user-supplied string into a system call, enabling command execution. Reachability requires the WiFi password or an Ethernet connection to the router network; successful exploitation grants root-level code execution.
