Root code execution via passwd stack overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in NETGEAR RAX30 firmware before 1.0.10.94 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code as root. The Telnet CLI passwd handler on TCP port 23 copies user-supplied data into a fixed-length stack buffer without validating its length. Reachability requires local WiFi or Ethernet access and the Telnet CLI authentication gate; NETGEAR requires admin credentials, while ZDI reports that the gate can be bypassed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
