ACEManager hang via malformed XML parsing

Published Nov 29, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Infinite-loop denial of service in Sierra Wireless ALEOS 0 through 4.9.8 and 4.10.0 through 4.16 allows remote attackers to hang ACEManager. ACEManager's bundled TinyXML parser fails to advance its byte pointer when a malformed XML sequence starts with 0xef and is followed by a null byte. No authentication is required, and the hang leaves other router functions operating while ACEManager remains unavailable until the device restarts.
