CVE-2023-40457Network attack vector

Remote BGP session resets via malformed attributes

Published Nov 10, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024

Denial of service in Extreme Networks ExtremeXOS 30.7.1.1 allows remote attackers to reset BGP sessions via malformed attributes. The BGP daemon terminates a receiving session when it processes malformed transitive AS_PATHLIMIT (21) or IPv6 Address Specific Extended Community (25) attributes instead of isolating the bad route. Reachability requires the attributes to propagate through a BGP peering path; resets interrupt routed traffic until recovery, and Extreme disputes that this behavior is a vulnerability.
