Code execution via dylib injection
Published Oct 4, 2023 · Updated Sep 20, 2024
Insomnia 2023.4.0 on macOS allows attackers to execute code and access restricted files via DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES. The application was distributed with entitlements that permit DYLD environment variables and disable library validation, allowing an attacker-controlled dylib to load inside Insomnia and inherit its TCC permissions. Local attackers need a user to launch Insomnia or approve a TCC prompt; the demonstrated impact includes arbitrary code execution and restricted-file access.
