CVE-2023-4028

Arbitrary code execution via unchecked firmware copy

Published Aug 17, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2024

Buffer overflow in Lenovo Notebook SystemUserMasterHddPwdDxe firmware allows local users with elevated privileges to execute arbitrary code. The driver copies attacker-controlled input into a destination buffer without checking that the destination can hold the supplied data. Exploitation requires local access and high privileges; successful memory corruption runs code in the affected firmware execution context.
