Arbitrary file read via unresolved traversal paths
Published Aug 14, 2023 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Path traversal in Zola 0.13.0 through 0.17.2 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files through the zola serve web server. The handle_request function prepends the webroot but checks the unresolved path prefix, allowing ../ segments to escape that root. The server must be running; remote reachability requires binding beyond the default loopback interface, and the impact is limited to file disclosure.
