CVE-2023-40261Public exploit

Disk-encryption bypass via unvalidated file attributes

Published Aug 8, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025

Improper file-attribute validation in Diebold Nixdorf Vynamic Security Suite allows physically proximate attackers to bypass pre-boot checks. The PBA process trusts manipulated file attributes on the system disk instead of validating them before authenticating the boot environment. Physical access and the ability to modify the offline hard disk are required; the demonstrated consequence is bypass of disk-encryption protections.
