CVE-2023-40173

Credential recovery via unsalted password storage

Published Aug 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024

Insufficient password protection in fobybus Social Media Skeleton before 1.0.5 allows attackers to crack exposed password hashes. The account storage path placed unsalted password values in the admin and users tables; the patch adds separate per-account salt tables and hashes each password with a random salt. Exploitation requires prior access to stored credential data, after which offline cracking can expose user or administrator passwords.
