Account takeover via JWT-secret error disclosure
Published Aug 17, 2023 · Updated Oct 7, 2024
Sensitive-data exposure in Netflix Dispatch before 20230817 allows remote attackers to take over accounts through malformed JWTs. The Basic Authentication Provider passes JWT decode exception text into an HTTP 401 response, and that text can contain DISPATCH_JWT_SECRET. The flaw is remotely reachable without authentication only when the instance uses that provider; the disclosed secret signs attacker-crafted JWTs for any account.
