Local privilege escalation via uninitialized VPS pointer
Published Feb 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 21, 2024
Use-after-free in ARTPWriter on Google Android 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows local users to escalate privileges without interaction. ARTPWriter leaves its VPS buffer pointer uninitialized, so destruction immediately after construction can free an indeterminate address. Exploitation requires local code execution on an affected Android device, grants higher privileges, and requires no user interaction.
