CVE-2023-40090Network attack vector

Remote privilege escalation via timing-leaky signature comparison

Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Observable discrepancy in Android 11, 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows remote authenticated users to gain elevated privileges over Bluetooth. BTM_BleVerifySignature in btm_ble.cc compares signatures with timing-sensitive memcmp, exposing byte differences that permit signature recovery and validation bypass. Exploitation requires Bluetooth access and low privileges but no user interaction; successful abuse raises privileges on the affected device.
