CVE-2023-40087

Paired-device privilege escalation via unchecked audio transcoding

Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Google Android 11, 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows physically proximate attackers to escalate privileges via paired Bluetooth. The transcodeQ*ToFloat functions in btif_avrcp_audio_track.cc write converted audio samples into a destination array without checking its bounds. Exploitation requires an existing Bluetooth pairing and can corrupt memory in the System component without additional execution rights or user interaction.
