Unauthenticated command execution via unsafe .NET deserialization
Published Sep 27, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
.NET deserialization in WS_FTP Server before 8.7.4 or 8.8.2 allows remote attackers to execute operating-system commands. The Ad Hoc Transfer IIS module passes attacker-controlled multipart field data to BinaryFormatter without restricting deserialized types. The Ad Hoc Transfer web application must be installed and reachable; successful exploitation runs commands as the IIS Network Service account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
