CVE-2023-40029Network attack vector

Cluster secret disclosure via unfiltered apply annotation

Published Sep 7, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024

Information disclosure in affected Argo CD releases allows remote authenticated users to read cluster secrets through the API. The cluster-details API returns the kubectl.kubernetes.io/last-applied-configuration annotation without removing the full client-side-applied Kubernetes Secret body. Exploitation requires the clusters, get RBAC permission and exposes sensitive data only when the stored annotation contains credentials such as bearer tokens.
