CVE-2023-3997Network attack vector

Terminal code execution via ANSI log injection

Published Jul 31, 2023 · Updated Feb 28, 2025

Improper log neutralization in Splunk SOAR before 6.1.0 allows remote attackers to inject ANSI escape codes through HTTP requests. A web endpoint writes attacker-controlled escape sequences into SOAR log files without neutralizing terminal control characters. Exploitation requires an ANSI-capable terminal user to read the poisoned log and execute the presented code, which then runs with that user's permissions.
