Unauthorized entry via clonable RFID identifiers
Published Aug 15, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2024
Missing encryption in the RFID tag of Etekcity 3-in-1 Smart Door Lock 1.0 allows physically proximate attackers to clone access tags. The lock uses a low-frequency RFID tag that stores only an unencrypted identifier, allowing a reader to copy the number and write it to a blank tag. Brief proximity to an enrolled tag is sufficient; a duplicate inherits the original tag's permissions and can unlock the door without alerting the owner.
