Stored XSS via executable SVG asset uploads
Published Jul 27, 2023 · Updated Oct 15, 2024
Stored XSS in the asset uploader in Omeka S before 4.0.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through SVG files. AssetAdapter accepts SVG MIME types as assets without removing embedded scripts, so a crafted SVG remains executable when opened directly. Author-level access is sufficient to upload the asset; opening it runs the attacker's script in the site's origin, exposing or altering accessible content and session data.
