Process crash via freed bitstream alignment
Published Aug 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
Heap use-after-free in GPAC 2.3-DEV-rev449-g5948e4f70-master allows attackers to crash MP4Box by supplying a crafted media file. During ISO media box parsing, gf_isom_box_parse_ex frees a temporary GF_BitStream, after which gf_bs_align reads the freed object while gf_bs_skip_bytes handles malformed box lengths. Opening the file with MP4Box and requesting XMT conversion triggers the abort; user interaction is required, and the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
