CVE-2023-39550Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Memory corruption via oversized authentication parameters

Published Aug 7, 2023 · Updated Oct 17, 2024

Buffer overflows in check_auth on three NETGEAR appliances allow remote authenticated users to corrupt memory via oversized credentials. The function copies attacker-controlled http_passwd and http_username NVRAM values without adequate bounds checks, so long strings overflow its buffers. An authenticated management session is required, and the public report does not establish whether exploitation causes a crash or controlled code execution.
