Administrator account takeover via unescaped device names
Published Sep 6, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Stored XSS in Cacti before 1.2.25 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in an administrator's browser via a device name. reports_expand_device builds a report title by concatenating the database-backed device description without HTML escaping before reports_admin.php renders it. The attacker needs device-management permission, and a privileged user must preview the linked report; execution can take over that victim account and perform actions with its rights.
