SYSTEM code execution via certificate-directory file write
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Triangle MicroWorks SCADA Data Gateway 5.1.3.20324 allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM. The trusted certification feature accepts attacker-controlled data for OpcUaSecurityCertificateAuthorityTrustDir and writes it to an arbitrary file location. The path normally requires authentication, but the published authentication mechanism can be bypassed, leaving full SYSTEM-context execution as the bounded consequence.
