Root command execution via unvalidated MAC parameter
Published Apr 17, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
OS command injection in Peplink Smart Reader 1.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through its web interface. The mac2name handler inserts the unvalidated mac POST parameter into a wget URL and passes the resulting command string to system(). Successful authentication and specific api.cgi routing values reach root-privileged execution on the appliance.
