Client crash via stale uninitialized RemoteFX tiles
Published Aug 31, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in FreeRDP clients before 2.11.0 and 3.0.0-beta1 through 3.0.0-beta2 allows remote attackers to crash the client. A failed rfx_allocate_tiles initialization leaves null tile entries in context->currentMessage, which later successful processing dereferences. Exposure requires a client connection to an RDP server that sends an invalid RemoteFX tileset followed by a valid message; impact is limited to process termination.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
